There are songs about narcissists in many genres and eras. Here is a sampling of a few songs written about narcissists. Amy Winehouse’s “Narcissist,” Carly Simon’s “I Am Superman” and Art Alexakis’ “I’m Moving On” are a few examples.
Amy Winehouse’s “Narcissist”
“Narcissist” is a song by Amy Winehouse, who was the adult child of narcissistic parents. The lyrics portray a young Amy Winehouse as a needy, lonely soul who desperately craved love and attention. She sought love from men in her life, especially her father Mitch. She was depressed and clung to men for support and affection.
Lauren Spencer-Smith is an upcoming pop singer who is already gaining momentum with her new single “Narcissist.” The talented songwriter is proving that she has the vocal chops to be a breakout star in 2022. The video for “Narcissist” is beautiful, and the song is a stunning pop ballad that showcases her writing and vocal versatility.
Kanye West’s “I Am Superman”
Kanye West’s “I Am superman” is an incredibly powerful album. The Grammy-nominated song boasts of recklessness and the dream of owning heaven. But the lyrics also mention narcissism and a narcissistic narrator. The lyric is ironic because of its resemblance to “Superman” arch-enemy Lex Luthor.
Kanye West has recently met with President Trump in the Oval Office. The “I Am Superman” rapper said he met with the president because he “loves him.” In addition to thanking Trump for his “superman” qualities, West even wore a red Make America Great Again hat.
Art Alexakis’ “I’m Moving On”
In 1996, Art Alexakis, the bandleader of Everclear, revealed a devastating diagnosis: he had multiple sclerosis. The songwriter faced his fears and struggles in a song called “The Hot Water Test.” The song was one of the standout tracks on Alexakis’ solo debut, Sun Songs. Its video acknowledges the fear and emphasizes the hope of moving forward.
As a child, Alexakis suffered from abuse and addiction. He is now a certified life coach, creative coach, and sobriety coach. He recently started his own private coaching practice, Coaching and Counseling for Creatives. Clients can connect with Alexakis via video calls.
Alexakis is also a political activist and has been a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention and a campaigner for presidential candidate John Edwards. He has also worked on drug awareness programs and has performed with the band Everclear at several political events. His music has been played for U.S. soldiers at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Hawaii, as well as the Snowball Express.
After his long tenure with Everclear, Alexakis decided to pursue solo work. He was the only original member of the group for more than a decade and was the driving force behind their music. Three years ago, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. While he initially sought medical treatment for a pinched nerve, doctors discovered scarring along his spinal cord and told him that he had multiple sclerosis for at least a decade. He said he’d used principles of recovery to live with addiction for three decades.
After moving to Portland, Alexakis worked to make it big in the city. While it took some time and plenty of rejection, the grueling transition molded him into a fiery songwriter. His band, Everclear, released the ‘Nervous & Weird’ EP in 1993 and his first LP, ‘World Of Noise’, on the independent label Tim/Kerr Records. The albums quickly gained momentum, and Alexakis and his band were signed by Capitol Records shortly after.
Rascal Flatts’ “I’m Moving On”
